I hope you come alive whenever you are traveling to beautiful and far off destinations and I hope you also come alive in living rooms and heartfelt conversations, because I promise you: Light is shining there too. In all that is subtle and all that is grand, I hope you come alive, fully present, whenever you can.
For there will be days where you have found yourself in the most ordinary rooms, in the most ordinary places, and you feel the weight of what use to be, and how you may never return to those days, but it will be in those places where you find the space to see things differently. To open your eyes to the smaller things. To dream another dream. And this does not mean that you cannot grieve the loss of what you used to be. It means that you are learning, slowly and surely, there is a time for everything, and you are allowed to sit with that. And as much time as you have given to thoughts of the way things were before, you can give mindful and grace-filled thoughts to the present, all the more.
This is what it means to come alive where you are: taking a deep breath and realizing, that in all that has changed, you still have this moment, and even though you have yet to see the extent of what it truly means, you are choosing to believe that you are still free to be present here.
So when the days turn into weeks, and the weeks turn into years and you are wondering how long you will to have wait and “make the most of life” right here, know that even then, Light pours through, and shines in unexpected places, and after all this time, it still worth delighting in. For just as darkness has taught you so many things, Light will reveal all the more things to you. Light will show you that even in the most shadowy, ordinary rooms, there is still space to heal.
Even in your waiting, wait to see what Light reveals. Let your heart be filled with joy at the possibility of what could be. And not just big, far-off distance things, but the small and seemingly insignificant, a flicker of hope in the stillness, that even here, you are free to come alive. You are free to open your eyes to make room for whatever little places Light begins to pour through. And it is there you will be reminded of what is true: as sure as you learn to come alive on the mountain, in the desert, in the sea...you are free to come alive, right here in the inbetweens. When nothing seems to be changing. When everything feels the same. You are free to come alive in the most ordinary place...knowing that even here, you are still growing, and you are still wrapped in grace.
There will be days where you wonder if are moving forward, but as sure as you are breathing, I assure you that you are. You are not in stagnant waters. You are living, breathing being that is free to come alive on the most ordinary days.
More tomorrow...
Sincerely,
Morgan Harper Nichols
